Dental Care 4 Teens
All your life, you probably have been told to brush your teeth
twice a day. But I bet there are things you have never heard before.
1. How Much To Brush
Brushing your teeth twice a day is actually the minimal. The
preferred amount is after every time you eat within a 30 minute period using
fluoride toothpaste. This may seem like overkill but if you don’t brush all the
sugars after you’ve eaten, it will form plaque which will eventually become a
cavity.
2. Watch What & When You Eat
Sodas are huge sources for cavities. Think… do you brush your teeth
after drinking one? Aim to brush your teeth once you finish, but it you can’t,
swishing and drinking water will help cut down on cavities. Also sipping
through a straw can prevent contact of the soda on your teeth. Chewing sugar
free gum can cleanse your mouth too.
When you eat is also important. Try to limit on snacking because if
not brushed more sugar will begin to build up. So try to eat three healthy
meals a day and brush afterwards. But lunch at school is no excuse. Carry a
travel sized kit and brush in the bathroom. Or use Wisp and not have to use
water at all to rinse.
3. What Goes In Might Come Out
Tongue piercings may be cool, but it can also cause damage. While
you are sleeping, eating, or even talking your teeth can be chipped. Also if
you are in a contact sport, wear a mouth guard to prevent teeth injuries.
I hope with these new dental
care tips, you will be able to protect your teeth. Now you might think more
than twice a day about brushing. Start off small and build up to make it where
your dentist doesn’t even have to clean… well much. Doing all this will make
your teeth cleaner and your smile brighter. Well that and flossing your teeth
once a day. Good grief!
Sickness Prevention 4 Teens
We all get sick every now and then, but was there something we could
have done to prevent it? With these tips, you can cut down on the spreading of
diseases.
1. Wash, Wash, Wash Your Hands
One of the most important ways
to prevent sickness is by washing your hands. Whenever you sneeze in your hands
or touch anything that might be contaminated, it is imperative to use warm
water and soap to wash those germs down the drain.
2. Watch Where You Sneeze &
Cough
You may have always been told
to sneeze in your hands. The same may have been for coughing. However, whenever
you go to wash your hands, if you do not wash off the handle, then you are just
putting the germs back on your hands! To prevent this, cough in your elbow or
use a tissue to eliminate the spread when you use the tip from above.
3. To Share or Not to Share?
An easy way of spreading germs
is with friends. They have a drink, you have a sip, and the next thing you know
you are sick with their germs! You may say they did not seem sick, but some
diseases do not show symptoms till a couple days or more of contact. The
easiest way to prevent this is to not share. Even waterfalling a drink can be
bad because the liquid is running over the germs of where your friend sipped.
So keep your germs to yourself and resist the temptation for that one sip.
4. One Sheep, Two Sheep
Teens need 9 and ½ hours of
sleep. Think of the last time when you had that. Just being worn down, can
allow you to be more tired and make it easier for diseases to take over. It’s
important to get as much sleep as possible every day, especially when you are
sick. This allows your immune system to do its job and fight off the germs.
Now with this knowledge, you
will be able to cut down on the spreading of diseases. Even though it may mean
having to go to school, your body will be much healthier without having to
fight so many germs!
