Beauty

                                                                        Beauty
The way beauty is seen constantly changes over the years.  You can’t have wrinkles your eyelashes have to be five inches long you have to wear the best clothes.  But just because you look good on the outside doesn’t mean you look good on the inside.  And I don’t mean like your organs and tissue and all that medical stuff I mean your character the way you act how you present yourself.  You might be one of the prettiest girls in the world but if you have a bad attitude then no one is going to want to be associated with you.  People say, “ pretty is as pretty does ” so if you are one of the most horrible people in the world people are going to see right through your designer clothes and expensive makeup for who you really are.  Now I’m not saying that it is a crime to want to look good, you should always want to look presentable.  But you should be able to look good and act well at the same time.  Just because you might have better things than some people doesn’t necessarily make you a better person.  So you should always try to be respectable to people; say kind thing, you know the golden rule “ if you cant say something nice don’t say anything at all.”  This also doesn’t mean that if you are the nicest person in the world that you should just leave your house looking any kind of way.  People aren’t going to take you seriously if you dress or look any kind of way.  For instance you are at a job interview and you go in with some torn jeans and a t-shirt.  You have a really impressive resume and you have all they need for that job.  Do you think you’re going to get it?  Most likely not because they couldn’t get past the get-up you were wearing.  So look presentable at all times but don’t be stuck up about it.

INNER AND OUTER BEAUTY QUOTES

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

“Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light if the heart”

“Beauty is not real.  Beauty only exist in perception”

Healthy Eating

                              Healthy Eating

Everyone wants to be the thinnest.  Everyone wants to have the best body, skinniest waste or the tightest stomach.  Its true.  These days people are willing to do anything to have the new fad body.  A lot of teenagers go to extremes to have that body, such as stop eating which could even lead to eating disorders that could do the total opposite of what you were hoping for.

I think a good way to move toward that goal is to start by eating more healthy.  When I say “healthy” I mean more fruits less chips, more vegetables less  ice cream and less sodas and more water.  Water is one of the main ingredients to a healthier body.  Of course exercising helps greatly but if you don’t want to start there, focus on your eating habits.  It has been said that sodas are the worst things to drink when trying to become healthier.  If you replace sodas with large amounts of water, you are good to go!

like I said earlier, some teens are so desperate to have that “perfect body” they will to dangerous and risky extremes.  To keep from going to far, here are some helpful tips.

·      Don’t skip any meals
·      Every single breakfast lunch and dinner is necessary all the time. They give you energy to get through the day with no trouble.
·      Eat less sugar
·      Sugar can always contribute to being overweight, or unhealthy.  Reducing sugar intake will lower your weight.
·      Drink lots of fluids (that doesn’t mean Koolaid!)
·      Drinking lots of fluids would be one of the healthiest things you can do to maintain a healthy body.
·      Never eat while distracted.
·      Eating while doing something else could lead to eating uncontrollably and forgetting how much you have taken in.

Healthy eating habits are very important no matter what age you might be.

Getting Involved

Getting involved can mean a variety of things. It can be anything from simple community service or a huge environmental project with friends. Our Girl Scout troop has done a variety of things to get involved. One thing that we just finished with was a project called “All Around Town”. In this project, we went to all four of Long Beach’s major parks and helped to beautify our parks to the new accommodations of Jeff Davis since Hurricane Katrina. This project had a huge turn out on our part and we are determine to keep it beautiful. Another project we did was making a cookbook. To do this the girls in our troop dug up family recipes and made little cards to go into our cookbook. After creating the cookbook, we sold these books to the general public. All of the proceeds went to the food pantry, so that they could supply the high demand of hungry people.
Even though these projects might seem too big to conquer, with a little help from friends you can do anything you set your mind to. Any project you think of big or small can help change the world in one way or another. Just think of something you’re interested in and get others involved.

Being a great friend

Being a Great Friend
As we get older, friendships become more challenging.  Friends may come and friends may go, but there will always be a few who stick around forever.  Our true friends are the ones we can trust and rely on.  Being a great friend takes a lot of forgiveness and acceptance.  The people who share the same interests with are usually the ones we like to be around.  If we are supportive and there for your friends when they need us, we will most likely be in a very long friendship.  Always stay honest with each other, and keep in touch.  “A circle is round; it has no end, that’s how long I want to be your friend.”

Tips on recycling

   Tips on recycling
Recycling is a great way to be green. Recycling saves energy, and natural resources such as, timber, water, and minerals. Also recycling reduces the need for land filling, and burning garbage. Almost any thing at your home, school, office, etc. if you can’t reduce it, it can be recycled. Waste that cannot be recycled in some form, it finds its way to disposal. They use this waste to generate electricity.
The U.S. Environmental protection Agency estimates that each American generated 4.3 pounds of waste daily in 2009. Recycling is an excellent way to keep the environment clean, and healthy. Also recycling is easy and fun to do. You don’t just have to recycle; you can reuse and reduce things. If you really put your mind to it, it might be fun.
A great way to recycle is to clean up trash around your neighborhood and recycle it. Instead of throwing stuff you don’t want any more, you can reuse it, and turn it into something new. For example, if you have any empty glass bottles, you could turn them into flower vases. If your mom, or dad complains about how the power bill is too high, just simple start turning the light off once you l leave a room, or that nobody is in. You don’t just have to recycle glass, paper, and cans there are plenty of things you can recycle. You can recycle: aluminum, and steel cans, cardboard, electronic equipment (old phones, and computers), glass, magazines, metal, news-paper, yard waste (leaves, and grass), plastic bags, and plastic bottles. If we can remember these simple tips, and ideas, and keep at it, one day we could change the world.

Dental Care 4 Teens

Dental Care 4 Teens
All your life, you probably have been told to brush your teeth twice a day. But I bet there are things you have never heard before.

1.     How Much To Brush
Brushing your teeth twice a day is actually the minimal. The preferred amount is after every time you eat within a 30 minute period using fluoride toothpaste. This may seem like overkill but if you don’t brush all the sugars after you’ve eaten, it will form plaque which will eventually become a cavity.

2.    Watch What & When You Eat
Sodas are huge sources for cavities. Think… do you brush your teeth after drinking one? Aim to brush your teeth once you finish, but it you can’t, swishing and drinking water will help cut down on cavities. Also sipping through a straw can prevent contact of the soda on your teeth. Chewing sugar free gum can cleanse your mouth too.
When you eat is also important. Try to limit on snacking because if not brushed more sugar will begin to build up. So try to eat three healthy meals a day and brush afterwards. But lunch at school is no excuse. Carry a travel sized kit and brush in the bathroom. Or use Wisp and not have to use water at all to rinse.

3.    What Goes In Might Come Out
Tongue piercings may be cool, but it can also cause damage. While you are sleeping, eating, or even talking your teeth can be chipped. Also if you are in a contact sport, wear a mouth guard to prevent teeth injuries.

I hope with these new dental care tips, you will be able to protect your teeth. Now you might think more than twice a day about brushing. Start off small and build up to make it where your dentist doesn’t even have to clean… well much. Doing all this will make your teeth cleaner and your smile brighter. Well that and flossing your teeth once a day. Good grief!

Sickness Prevention 4 Teens

We all get sick every now and then, but was there something we could have done to prevent it? With these tips, you can cut down on the spreading of diseases.

1.     Wash, Wash, Wash Your Hands
One of the most important ways to prevent sickness is by washing your hands. Whenever you sneeze in your hands or touch anything that might be contaminated, it is imperative to use warm water and soap to wash those germs down the drain.

2.    Watch Where You Sneeze & Cough
You may have always been told to sneeze in your hands. The same may have been for coughing. However, whenever you go to wash your hands, if you do not wash off the handle, then you are just putting the germs back on your hands! To prevent this, cough in your elbow or use a tissue to eliminate the spread when you use the tip from above.

3.    To Share or Not to Share?
An easy way of spreading germs is with friends. They have a drink, you have a sip, and the next thing you know you are sick with their germs! You may say they did not seem sick, but some diseases do not show symptoms till a couple days or more of contact. The easiest way to prevent this is to not share. Even waterfalling a drink can be bad because the liquid is running over the germs of where your friend sipped. So keep your germs to yourself and resist the temptation for that one sip.

4.   One Sheep, Two Sheep
Teens need 9 and ½ hours of sleep. Think of the last time when you had that. Just being worn down, can allow you to be more tired and make it easier for diseases to take over. It’s important to get as much sleep as possible every day, especially when you are sick. This allows your immune system to do its job and fight off the germs.

Now with this knowledge, you will be able to cut down on the spreading of diseases. Even though it may mean having to go to school, your body will be much healthier without having to fight so many germs!
